Abstract

Information literacy is understood as a teaching-learning process aimed at different levels of education such as primary, secondary, and higher education, as well as other types of institutions. The importance of implementing actions and/or programs of this nature in schools and universities is highlighted, aiming to provide greater contact with sources of information, as well as helping to develop students' critical sense in the teaching-learning process. In this sense, the general objective of this study is to analyze IBGE Educa - Children as a source of geographic information for students from the 1st to the 5th year of elementary school within the scope of information literacy programs. The specific objectives were: a) to describe the content covered in the IBGE Educa Menu for children; and b) analyze geographic data in three activities from the “Menu Brincadeiras”. This is an exploratory and descriptive research, with a qualitative approach, using the IBGE Educa - Children Portal as the research universe, which contains different types of geographic information and varied activities, which can be included in information literacy programs. . As a result, it is observed that the three activities selected for analysis allow children to acquire knowledge and skills to analyze geographic information, statistical data, spark curiosity and inquiry into certain issues and/or situations, as well as providing greater awareness about aspects of Brazilian fauna and flora, helping to preserve the environment.
