Abstract

This study aims to identify similarities between the public policies on the books and reading promotion and the Sustainable Development Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda. Theoretically, public policies on the books and reading promotion and Sustainable Development Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda were discussed. A qualitative and quantitative research was carried out, with documentary design and descriptive and exploratory levels. Fifteen documents were retrieved from the repository of the Regional Center for Book Promotion in Latin America and the Caribbean. The documents were analyzed using the methods of data correlation analysis and content analysis. The correlation analysis of the data showed that there is no correlation between the data of the Sustainable Development Goal 4 and the public policies analyzed. The content analysis presented data that corroborate the ones obtained in the correlation analysis. It was identified that the public policies on the books and reading promotion analyzed address issues that are underrepresented or absent in Sustainable Development Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda. The research concludes that it is fundamental that the efforts to bring the public policies on the books and reading promotion and the Sustainable Development Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda closer are carried out mainly by public managers. Such a movement would represent a significant and innovative advance in educational and cultural public policies. To do so, however, planning, political will, institutional alliances and trained technical personnel are desirable.
