Challenges of Information Sciences and their social responsibility in the new societal scenarios: notes for discussion

Abstract

The current situation which presents the society, whose social fabric required information within the cultural, economic, social and political needs, requires special attention, thus the social responsibility of stakeholders involved in access to ICTs at the citizen level. This presentation will give an overview of my principles in the different phases of the World Summit on the information society, to which Chile signed in Geneva in 2003, and the phases and subsequent meetings. A review of the implementation of programmes and projects carried out in Chile in the last decade, at national and local levels will be presented. Two lines of reporting will be developed according to the study in the area of information science: a) development of the teaching provided in Chile for the training of information professionals; b) importance of methodologically correct research scientifically raised and validated the results. Finally, arises that the training should be strengthened by an educational model centered on learning to learn with cross-cutting resources both in formal spaces and people.
